Frequently Asked Questions
NTA 8776 helmet: what does this certification mean?
An NTA 8776-certified helmet is a European standard for helmets that offer more protection than a standard bicycle helmet. Due to the increasing use of heavy e-bikes, protection for the sides and back of the head is becoming increasingly important. NTA is mandatory in the Netherlands for speed pedelecs and mopeds. This helmet offers enhanced protection at speeds up to 45 km/h.
How do I measure my head for size?
Bicycle helmet and scooter helmet sizes are shown in centimeters. It also doesn't matter whether the speed pedelec helmet is for men or women. Standard sizes range from 50 to 64 centimeters. A helmet should fit snugly and without any slack, so ordering the correct size is important.
Not everyone has a tape measure at home. Tape measures are often used for tailoring. An alternative is to use a rope, ribbon, or cord and stretch it around the head at the same point. With your thumb, hold the point where the rope was "round" and meets the other end. Then measure the distance from the rope to this point. This can be done with a tape measure or a ruler. And that's how you get the centimeters for the scooter helmet.
Sizes vary by 3 to 5 centimeters per size. Some helmets allow for more space. Also consider the head shape. For example, the SKATE model is rounder, while the PILOT model is relatively more oval.
Best helmet for e-bikes and mopeds
GO-OFF helmets are specially designed according to NTA 8776 guidelines. Our CE-certified helmets, like NTA helmets, are also lower to protect the sides and back of the head. This combines CE and NTA 8776 certification with lightweight materials and a comfortable fit.
If you're looking for a helmet for your e-bike, you can choose from NTA- and CE-certified helmets. For a moped or speed pedelec, it must be NTA-certified.
Is a helmet mandatory on a speed pedelec?
Yes, in the Netherlands, an NTA 8776 helmet is mandatory for speed pedelecs. GO-OFF helmets meet this standard and are approved for use on public roads. In other countries, such as Belgium, an NTA 8776 helmet is strongly recommended if you travel at speeds of 25 km/h or faster.
Wearing glasses in combination with the visors of the GO-OFF helmets?
All GO-OFF bicycle helmets with visors are designed for glasses wearers. The visors are magnetic and adjustable with the headband. The headband can be adjusted internally. Pushing the headband deeper into the helmet tilts the helmet back more exaggeratedly, moving the visor further away from your face. Because you put the helmet on first and then position the visor in front of your eyes and glasses, you get an optimal fit.
